Its definitely the hinge. Water is acting like a lubricant on rainy days, that's why the sound goes away. You'll notice rust from the hinges because of this soon.

Thought I'd update you re: door rattle. As I have mentioned before, I traced the rattle to the lower door hinge. After fudging around with remedies (penetrating sprays, oils, grease, dry lube etc, etc...), I decided to try a physical fix. Went to clark rubber, purchased a strip of 16x16mm high density foam rubber, cut it to size and stuck in in the door jam near the lower hinge (theory behind this is to have it place outward pressure on the lower hinge to prevent excess movement), and hey presto, noise gone!"

While we're on the subject, another good Rubber/vinyl/plastic conditioner/UV protectant is 303 Aerospace protectant. A friend put me onto it and its fantastic, restores things nicelly and becasue it's water based doesn't attract dust and allows for future gluing of vinyl/rubber if needed (a handy feature on inflatable zodiac boats). Not too many shops in Oz sell it (2 in Perth last time I checked), I got 4 litres expressed shipped from the US 20% cheaper than shops sell it for here, go figure.

Not sure bout CRC but I find wd40 is very short lived as it evaporates. I find INOX stays on for months once applied, which might prove for a longer fix.Quote:
