Am I correct in saying that there is no way of turning the CC tune off for times when you need VW service/ warranty???

there's little point, irrespective of which tune you have, the VW techs will pick up a re-map on their equipment.

I thought that was the point of APR / Revo / GIAC in that you can put the tune back to stock, hence making it undetect-able???

Vw cannot detect the remap never from any of the equipment i used there unless im missing something. Remember the remap is emulating the original program guys, so how can it be detected. Lets face it you wnat to switch it off to stop the hoons cowboying in your hard earnt.

Isn't it true they can find it if they go to reflash your ECU with the stock software - it will give a warning saying are you sure you want to write over it?

If you read and write any eeprom including the dash cluster you will get this prompt, because you are overwriting it , there is a warning prompt. Came across it heaps. 5051 software may have changed since i was in dealerland, when i was there i dont remember it ever being the case , would like to know more if it is.

VW dealers can only tell if the ECU has been modded by looking at the reflash counter. This is the only way for a dealer to tell without sending the whole ECU in for inspection by the factory. Most ECU tuning companies have not been completely successful in not resetting the flash counter so many of the ECU chips out there are very detectable to VW.

APR does not reset the flash counter, so irrespective of how many times you change the map it stays at where the factory had it. This is why the dealers (who know how to change APR maps) have gotton into the habit of fiddling with the cruisecontrol buttons in the appropriate manner to see if they can detect an APR chip. I have seen them do this ..... !!!!

Which is also why mine is security code locked ....

A VW tech plugged in the latest diagnostic equipment right in front of me. He pointed to a little screen in the right corner of the monitor which usually displays numbers. Mine showed no numbers at all, and they knew exactly why it didn't....

I thought it was the other way around -- most of the tuners now reset the flash counter -- at least that's the case, as I understand it, on software for the S3 from APR, GIAC, REVO, Custom-Code, SuperChips... ? Not sure about the Polo, and obviously it's a different ECU

Ah well things have changed then. Ive only been away from Porsche for 12mnths. The flash counter wasnt reset , and i seen many Turbos come through and i knew they were flashed same goes for Cayenne. Undetectable then. Tunes werent all done by APR either. Anyway you learn something new everyday. Glad we do otherwise it would all get a bit boring.
