    Red face Creaking Door Seals

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this. A strange creaking noise coming from their door seals when you have your windows up. Ive tried cleaning the section where the seal touches on the body of the car, giving the seals a clean as well but the creaking sound always seems to come back after a while.

    Cheers

Hi Brumue, I have just joined up here, this is my first post. Have been reading for a while though, but when i saw this post i had to help, cos I have that problem and it really pis*ed me off and have just sorted it out!

My Pogo (received October 06) has progressively developed really noisy door creaking, which i though was from the window mounts, cos as you say, when the windows are lowered, the creaking disappears. I had it at VW once but they couldnt identify it, so i took it back to Camberwell VW (vic) last week and insisted (nicely) one of the techs to come for a drive with me, and it was so noisy he heard it straight away. He believed it to be the seals too, and took it into the workshop and applied a lubricant to the seals. It worked a charm! He just said to get it done each service and so far so good.

But its the type of lubricant thats important. He used some Mercedes seal lubricant (no VW product) and applied this to both seals on both doors. Not a squeak now from them, its beautiful. I cant tell you anymore about the product cos he didnt tell me the name, just said it was a Mercedes Seal Lubricant they use every now and then on creaky doors.

    Hi Rocket, William,

    Thankyou for the prompt replys.
The sound really does get frustrating so its great to know its nothing major.
I will ask them to take a look at the seals at the next service.

Is this lubricant available at any of the Auto Part stores? Or is it some specialist trade only sorta thing?

Yep definately sounds like a common problem, 'cos it's affecting me right now! lol

Booked in for a checkup on Monday and will definately ask them about the Mercedes lubricant if they happen to be unable to identify the problem...

Yeah its really annoying, but this lubricant, if you can get them to apply it, does the job perfectly. The rubber seals are just too good, and grip too well, so this lube allows them to move enough, while still keeping the seal. Not a creak since. Its good (well not good, but) to hear that its common and i wasn't the only one experiencing it. My car is going in on Monday to fix something else and i will try find out the name of the stuff if i can.

I let them have a look at it yesterday about the creaking - and instead of lubing it up, they've ordered a new window seal for me... strange

    Didn't think it'd be a big deal

Unless this is a known problem, and the have changed the rubber material they use in the seals? Do you know any more? Have they heard of this before?

I am still trying to get the name of this lube, i am expecting a phone call.
