Coolant leak / coolant replacement

Hi everyone,

My coolant has been leaking from the lower left side of the radiator and causing the coolant light to flash constantly. Reading through other posts it seems I'm not the only one

Anyway, I've bought a new water hose quick coupling (6Q0122291F $20.40) and hope its that and not the radiator. I've picked up three bottles of G12++ coolant and will be dropping the whole coolant, replacing this part and filling it up again.

Just wondering if there's anything special I need to do when replacing the whole coolant, never done it before on a VW?

PS Do people also thing I should remove the secondary air pump at the same time as that drops some coolant doesn't it?

Ok,

I emptied the coolant and flushed it all out with the heater running etc, replaced the hose quick coupling, refilled it all and left it to idle for a while and took it for a 5 min drive, allowed it to cool and topped it up to the correct level and took it for another drive and allowed to cool again.

Once cool, I then opened VCDS and ran a scan which came up with:
17705 - pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve (check dv) P1297-35-10 intermittent
16795 - secondary air injection system incorrect flow detected P0411-35-00

No mention of the coolant anywhere.

I then reset all the codes and rescanned with no faults.

The problem is, the coolant light is still beeping initially and continues flashing. The coolant level is within limits, there are no leaks and the temperature is normal/as it has been since I got the car.

Any ideas?

yeah agree with transporter. Havent done any in polo but used to do stacks in golf 4, cant see the sensors being to far different.

Where are these sensors? Do I have to replace the whole coolant reservoir ball (ie integrated switch/sensor)? Or is it somewhere else?

Is the G12++ coolant what we use in 9N3 GTIs?

Just noticed mine is quite low (below the min marker) and I'd like to top it up, without having to rely on my mechanic for all these little things.

either or is fine as far as I'm aware.

i have used both in all my cars.. g12++ is just for cooler climates, mix accordingly.

Thanks. I did a quick search for g12++ coolant threads, and found some talk from the Golf/Golf R folk. Should be easy enough to source, will do a call around in the morning.
