    Coolant Leak

    Hi All,

Over the past 3 weeks i have had to top up about 300-400ml of coolant i can see a TINY drip on car cool down at the bottom of the radiator passenger side. I am going to pull the bumper off this weekend to make sure its not a house or a clip (easy fix) if its the radiator where could i source a replacement? its for a 2006 GTi. is it a home job? or should i source the parts and take it to the mechanic?

    Cheers.

I may be wrong, but I think this is a fairly common failure on the 9n3. Bottom passenger side of the radiator cracks, next to the outlet (inlet?). Had mine replaced around 2010, and that was a 2006 with about 120k on the clock. It was cracked for a while at that point, it doesn't loose a lot, but you do need to top it up every couple of weeks. It was like that for a while.

Yeh sounds like mine. The loss is super minimal but should probably fix it sooner rather then later. I guess mods are on hold for the moment. Just as so picked what wheels I wanted

So I'm thinking it's a intermittent issue. No coolant loss this week at all. I tightened all the clamps and hoses so hopefully that fixed it.

If its <500ml a year, I woudn't be worried if you keep an eye on it. The light on the dash goes on before you loose any real volume of fluid.

Got mine done just over a year ago. Radiator cost me about $220 then but the labour was what really bent me over. All up cost me about $930. Worst part is that it might be leaking again.
    Some say...
