Spring for clutch compressing I think.... well mine does it too and that's what I put it down to.

Yep. They are telling me now that they are waiting to hear from VW to tell them what to do.

I'm calling Austral Tue (I'll give them on more day) and if nothing is still happening I'll talk to the dealer principle.

Jimmy - would it be possible for a broken thrust bearing to cause damage elsewhere in the engine? Is the thrust bearing internal of the motor?

They are talking of either replacing the whole motor or repairing it (what exactly I dont know and nor do they until VW tell them).

There are thrust washers inside the motor, which centre the crank. It's possible thats what they are talking about. If the end float on the crank got excessive it may have damaged the crank and block I suppose.

Clutch wise they are talking about the release bearing (thrust bearing). Replacing the motor? something has went seriously wrong there mate, There is thrust bearing in the centre journal of the crank, cant co-relate the 2 when your problem was a clutch problem,
Geez im really interested to hear the outcome here.

They reckon thrust bearing went first and as a result, while still using the clutch, this casused subsequent damage to the clutch.

Yep, so whats the change the motor thing?????? I understand the thrust bearing which is like i say ( throw out bearing, release bearing) just depended on who you spoke to as to what terminology they used. Still interested to see what they are saying about the rest.
Anyway Peter as long as you get a result soon and im sure you will keep us posted
    Cheers
