Paul, is it related to revs do you think. Does it do it in 4th at the same throttle position and revs?

Did you look at the plugs yet?

hmmm 3rd at 60?? Well you will rocket away so maybe its the engine mounts? Could be loose etc? Particularly if you are tuned its right in the fast section of the rev range.

I'm not a mechanic and nor has it happened to me, but I've heard of similar things on 3MPS's.

3rd gear at 60kmph is below the good torque band, at least with my chip.

You changed the spark plugs? So does that indicate a Pinging issue?

it didn't sound like pinging but more mechanical at the time, but i haven't heard any pinging before in any of my other cars. i'm not mechanically stoopid but i guess with these new fandgled cars you never know.

Glad your on top of that one mate. Sounded like it with your description, fuel is a hit or a miss at times pays to try and stick with the servo you are used to. Cant stress to my wife enough when filling the A4, and yeah its obvious when she has used a dodgy bowser.
As for the other noises mentioned here, if you have done ANY susp upgrades please use new bolts especially the control arm bolts, One that is slightly loose will click/clunk. Check them and check your sway bar links ball and sockets get wear in them.

Yeah I back tracked and figured out it was fuel from a BP down in Tweed Heads, which explains it. Not surprised really (no offence Eddy )

I usually use the same petrol station but was out of fuel and down that way at the time.
