plautos replyed that his definatly helped on track at high revs , but probably wouldnt be worth day to day. but then again the way some of us drive ours it certainly couldnt hurt. i know i wouldnt say no to more top end, and lets face it 780-800 delivered isnt that much of an ask.

Ps: plautos if you in any way didnt want me to quote you, let me know and ill edit my post.

hmm group buy might certainly be in contention, since i got my tax return.

I never change a camshaft on a vw, but is it straight forward swap like lift the cam cover, pull out the old cam and fit the new ones?

Just wondering how much would that cost to install it...

I am interested in as well, but do we need new software for it?

    Hmm....

these are some of the same questions i had. aparently plautos is using apr k04 software (by no means em i endorsing a chip here ) and he has scene gains. so im guessing not. maybe someone with more technical knowledge could shed some light on the dificulty rating on changeing a vw cam shaft.

A fair bit more to it than lifting a cam cover off mate im afraid, you have the valve timing to set, timing belt off, and a chain runs between the 2 cams which too has to be set up, there is a cam chain adjuster in there too. You can get this seriously wrong. Not for a novice .

This is just an opinion but cams are the last thing I'd be replacing on a 20VT. I'd spend money everywhere else before opening up the motor.

Invariably they produce power where it's least accessible.

A cam in a normally aspirated motor makes sense but multivalves flow well by design so there's less to be gained, especially in a daily driver.

The APR stage 3 (really big turbo - not ko4) on the 1.8T does not replace the camshafts, so if it doesn't need to then why would you need to or want to.

Yep you can destroy your valves (smashing against the piston) if not reset properly once putting on a new camshaft. Highly advise a professional to do it.

Exactly my point my friend, Gavs right i would spend else where on this engine for sure, and ill awake my existing comment on bleeding off compression, you can if you chose the wrong one, and with a cam on this engine you still have the variable valve timing but you can upset functionality. How are you going to use the application , if you like a blap now and again then i wouldnt bother as you dont reap any benefits for low end power.
Yes we did fit high lift jobbies to PB engine Golfs and And this was an N/A engine, they did love it.
Pros and cons and of course pocket
    Interesting however,
On Plautos defense i havent looked at his links
