Question Broken Tubes/Pipes in engine bay. Help!?

    Hey guys,

My apologies if this has been asked previously: I had a scan through and couldn't see any posts regarding the issue, sorry if I missed it!

Last night while doing an oil + filter change on my '06 Polo GTI I popped the hood and saw that the two small pipes running to the left of the air intake had splits. When I grabbed them to have a look, the slightest amount of pressure caused them to snap and break completely as they were so brittle (from heat & old age I assume).

I've taped them up for now (as shown below) until I can get booked into Austral VW to have them replaced. I'm wondering if driving the car with my "quick fix" is going to cause any damage? Does anybody know what they are for? Or have experienced something similar?

    Thanks heaps guys!!

    Cheers,
    Scotty

They are part of the Secondary Air Intake system (the pump that comes on when the car is cold). Wont be a problem to drive the car, you might get an emissions light but wont damage anything. FYI, a lot of people remove the SAI as it doesn't really do a whole heap.

keep an eye on the duct tape - may need to replace that with automotive electrical tape.
also they are pretty easy to change yourself - they click on and off easily. some people on this forum who have removed their sai may still have the old pipes and might be willing to sell them to you.
