    Breaking into a Polo Gti

    http://www.performanceforums.com/for...7230864&page=5

Guy at work had his Polo GTI broken into - thieving ****s used a can opener (NO ****ING JOKE) and cut a fist sized hole near the driver's side door handle, pulled on the mechanism inside to wind down the window and reach into the car and grabbed stuff.

(most of you will know that euro cars have that function if you hold down the lock/unlock on the remote and the windows go up/down)

Apparently whole door will need to be replaced as door cannot be repaired.
Not sure if you can read that thread or not. Near the end they discuss how someones Polo GTi was broken into. Does it sound feasible?

Why wouldn't you just smash the window if you wanted to get in like that?

yeah that sounds strange because either way you do it (wind down windows and reach in or smash windows and reach in), the alarm is going to go off. a lot of effort for grabbing a few things out of a car.

Maybe the can opener wouldn't break the window so he had to think outside the box.

    Thats what I don't get

You would need to have knowledge of the security aspects of the car. Have the required equipment and some electronics knowledge. Meanwhile you wouldn't know if your activities during the break-in would setoff the alarm anyway.

Wonder what was in the car that was so valuable?

Or jacked and towed... as often happens

And besides, most people wouldn't report a car break in firstly because of the fear of their own safety and secondly due to the inconvenience it causes. As long as you don't make too much noise and alert the owner or security/police they should be able to get away without too much of a problem.

They rate very highly in security features ... top of the small car market, I believe.
