best bet to take it back and go into the workshop and point at it when they have it in the air
Hey VW-ers,
I am the proud owner of a brand new Polo GTI (1000k's) and have two problems:
1) Regular metallic type knock against driver side footwell (sounds like when you flick a ruler on a table), upon reversing out of my drive which is on slight slope, with some slight pressure on brakes.
2) Upon pulling out of the garage this morning, found 3 drops of clear oil with a yellow tint to it.
Took the car back to dealer who says they placed it up on hoist and couldn't find anything, let alone any signs of oil. When home, jacked the car up and found sings of oil leak straight away. Leads me to believe they did nothing???
Cleaned up oil, went for a long-ish drive today, and hey presto, oil found in the same spots under car (anti-rollbar, and vicinity). Any help/suggestions would be great to have a bit of ammunition to take to the dealer this week.
Cheers,
Con.

sounds like a similar issue 2 other cars had - leak around CV joint. jack it up and wrap the CV joint in some paper and leave it wrapped for a while (30minutes??). remove paper and check for oil stains.
alternatively, visually inspect the CV joint for leaks.
Got home tonight and jacked the car up. Noticed some drops of oil in 2 places, both in the same area as both inner cv joints. Looked a joints, and noticed both seemed to have a fine film of oil on them. The oil was not on the boot(s) though, just on the metal section prior to entering gearbox/diff. Could you please forward link to relevant section of forum or provide details of the 2 other similar cases you mentioned.
Cheers,
Con.

I may not have correctly described where oily film was on cv/drive shaft. The area with residue looks to be a flange (several torx bolts) just after cv boot, which the joint bolts onto. Hope this helps.

those 2 cases are not from this forum or on the internet. it happened to two of my friends.
in both cases, the description of the type of oil/liquid you mentioned matches theirs and the leak was seen at the CV joint.
similar to the 2 cases. The oil was not on the boot(s) though, just on the metal section prior to entering gearbox/diff
since your car is brand new, bring it back and show them the stain on the CV joints. the fix should be a pretty straight forward replacement of the said part.
as for the first problem - is your suspension stock? try one test -
1. find an empty car park
2. reverse the car fairly quickly
3. hit the brakes hard
do you hear the same knocking sound? if you do, it could be your front sway bar knocking against something. have them check that (perhaps your drop links are defective??)
hth.
Sound like your driveshaft seals. Knocking noise may be your sway bar link, or brake pad moving around in caliper when your reverse. Or drive shaft not seat in diff properly and move about causing seal to leak & noise.
Test sway bar is easy , open one door, garb both hands bout the roof part and shake car left to right (by push & pull), built up enough momentum and you will hear sway bar link/s knock if there are any.
In reply to jesum, I've found a similar problem on vwvortex where a couple of owners have had transmission oil leak into innner cv's. Their problem was caused by defective driveshaft flange seals. Would this be the problem your 2 friends had with their cars, and if so, did the VW dealer cause any dramas with acknowledging problem and sorting it?
Cheers,
Con.
