    Boost gauge vacuum line routing

    Hi all,

I've seen many gauges about installing a boost gauge in a Polo 9n3 GTI, however a lot of the guides show the vacuum pipe being routed through the grommet on the passenger side of the car, and then under the dash to the drivers side.

Is there a place that the vacuum line can be routed so that it comes out by the drivers side pedals, which to me seems more logical than routing the vacuum line halfway round the engine bag and cabin. Such as running with the bonnet release?

    Cheers

Does the polo have any access through a little port in the raintray like the Golf does? If not, it might be a good place to make a hole (just make sure it's high enough up (and/or sealed well enough) that rain water can't get in).

You can see in one of the photos when I was installing my AutoPolar unit the rubber tube I was using for a boost guage:

It depends how you route it under the bonnet. Mine goes though on the passenger side and its a piece of piss to run it across the dash.

Feel free to do it another way though

yeah you can get into the engine bay via the panel next to the accelerator. If you curl your fingers over the top lip of the panel that sits next to your accelerator foot you will feel a large soft rubber grommet. Using a draw wire of some sort push through there and use it to pull your boost gauge tubing to the outside in front of the door hinge. Once in there go to the engine bay and push a draw wire (really stout builders nylon) through a gap up next to the bonnet hinge. You will feel like its going down inside the fender. Angle it down and towards the back of the car and if you are extremely lucky it will punch out between the car body and the plastic panel that seals the void between the door hinge area and the back of the wheel well. If you are unlucky you will have to take off the wheel, remove the wheel well shroud and look for your draw wire and feed it past this panel. That's the trickiest bit. Once the daw wire is there use it to drag the pressure line through to the engine bay. From there its pretty easy to neatly run the line to the engine and camouflage it amongst all the anti pollution pipes if its black.

All sorted now guys, friend of mine had some vacuum line left over from an install he did, so routed through under the ECU and under the dash, looks neat and tidy. Thanks for the help!

Awesome to see you got it in there. Any chance you took some photo's of where you ran the line/how you installed it all?

In the end i got longer tubing and ran it through the small grommet under the ECU in the fire wall. The grommet can be seen in the guide below. Then put in through the the drivers side through a gap in dash. Any Questions chuck me a PM and I can sort some Pictures out.
