Thread: Blow-Off Valve installed !!

  1. #41

Yeah it's illegal in all states I can think of.

I belive it's to do with emmissions laws. (ie the BOV emmitting air does not comply with E3 specs etc etc)

Give me a screamer and external wastegate anyday. My evo runs 1.8 bar all day long with a stock MR BOV.

[-Polo Gti-] go easy on me please. I'm not e-cool and my Polo's stock.
At least tosspot has a sense of humour.

It is illegal, but who really cares...

Seriously though guys, a guy gets on here with a valid thread, showing all of us a simple modification, that he is no doubt proud of, and he gets sack wacked with a hand full of *****ty comments.
We are all guilty of it at some point(I know I have...), but fairs fair...It was a legit mod, it gives the little Pog a fair bit of presence on the road, and it sounds the business...
It may sound like a fully sic VL Turbo, but it looks a ***** tin better, and goes like a scalded cat.

LoriJarrod, all i'm saying is that if you've got a crap comment to make, save it for boostcruising.com or your beloved calaisturbo.com.au, you can get years of it on there. i don't know if you've realised, but this is not what this site is about. i can honestly say that your the first person i have seen on this site that has a made a poor comment towards someone else. i have noticed since owning a VW that no matter what the model, all VW drivers have a high respect for one another. Just maybe LoriJarrod, you're in the wrong car, a Calais Turbo might suit you a little better.

next time think before you write mate, your rubbish isn't welcome here

Calm down princess. It was hardly a vicious comment aimed at you or anyone else. Please note the symbol at the end of the post in question. Just tongue in cheek. If you can't have a bit of a laugh at that then I feel sorry for you mate. Did it occur to you I was more having a dig at something like calaisturbo.com.au than you?

Try not to take things too serious.

    Jarrod.

Just bought this Kompact dual port BOV and installed it into my MK4 GTi yersterday evening. It's not very loud even on harder setting. So I've adjusted it to soft setting.
How come my wastegate is louder than the actual BOV?

you will get used to it. i've noticed that changing from 1st to 2nd, you will only get a noise if you give it a bit, and change gears at around 3000-3500 rpm. from then, changing from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, to get the loudest noise, it is best to give it a bit of throttle and change at around 3000-3500rpm. at the engine heats up, so will the bov, and the springs will loosen = louder sound again.

Personally, my bov is bloody loud, it is not really a good example in the video and i wish i had a better camera, but my gf clearly hears me coming from well down the street and around the corner.

are you sure it has been put on the right way...one of my mates put one on his Ralliart Colt a few months back and had it on the wrong way for about a month before someone said something. when on the wrong way, your car will flutter softly = not good!

have a bitof a drive around doing as i said and see how you go. you should be driving for at least 7-10 mins before you get the most out of it.

You will not damage your turbo by not running a blow off valve. Period. Whether it is bush bearing or ball bearing doesn't matter. The weight of the air in the intake is 2/5 of **** all and will not in any way be enough to damage the bearings or anything else in the turbo. Blow off valves were made for 2 reasons:

    1. To reduce noise - new car buyers don't like a car that makes a weird fluttering noise.

    2. For emissions compliance on maf sensored cars - with an atmo bov or no bov the air that has passed the maf does not enter the engine, causing the car to run rich and fail emissions.

No bov causing damage to a turbo is an old wives tale and is NOT true. Many many street and race cars have run very high boost pressures with no bov for long periods of time with no negative effects. Bovs do NOT increase performance and they are NOT required to prevent damage to a turbo. On a maf sensored car the car will run poorly on gearchanges without a plumb back bov, on a map sensored car they serve no purpose other than noise suppression which obviously isn't relevant with an atmo valve. Atmo bovs are just a good source of boost leaks and wanky sounds, nothing more.
