    bench flash tune

    Hey guys,

    Went to get my polo flashed on the weekend, but the ecu came back with some errors. (I have no idea what these errors were) They said that they will have to take the ecu out to flash it but there is a chance this could fry the ecu and a new ecu could cost up to 2k to replace!

    So I said hold up and didn't proceed.

    Has anyone else experienced this? Will I have to change my ecu if i want it flashed?
    Ive read that if i change the ecu i will have to change all my keys etc.
    new ecu + tune seems like an expensive exercise.
    it was to be a Revo tune.

    Did Revo elaborate on what the errors were? Has your ECU had any trial flashes loaded to it?

    You can get an ECU for less than 2K. I bought one from ebay UK for 40 quid. I got the immobiliser defeated by Custom-Code, so that I could use it as a loaner. 06A906032TL should be the number.

    You could do the same if it goes wrong? I'd be prepared to lend you mine to keep you on the road.

    You need to know exactly what the errors are - If it's a CAN / K Line issue then it probably can't be flashed in the car (even a new ECU). Chances of hurting it or killing it on the bench would be pretty much nil as long as the operator knows what they are doing.

    Try another tuner if you can't go anywhere with the Revo.

    I had a k line issue, just cut the k line cord off and it will work

    will call tomorrow and see what the errors were.

    Any other way to see what the problem is if i don't get answers?

    guy/dood - Being a novice in this dept what is a k line / can - I'm assuming its the connection to the cars ecu?

    If they cannot connect to the ECU in the car, which would be most unusual, it's going to be the wiring as Guy has pointed out.

    Bench flashing is safe as houses IMO.

    If you don't get the answers or a decent explanation of why they think that the ECU could get damaged during the process? Go somewhere else.
