Even if you don't decide to get a downpipe and stage 2, I (and many others) can highly recommend Gav's stage 1!

+1, Highly recommend Gav regardless of if you go phase 1 or 2 but if you plan on going phase 2 at some point save yourself some coin and get a downpipe installed first. If you can afford to get the tune done at the same time get a 02 spacers so you can run it on the std tune without any dash lights appearing.

Ok cool, I might go into a few places and price a downpipe then. I'd rather go straight to a stage 2 and save money on getting it tuned a second time. Am I able to post you my Ecu to be flashed Gavin? I'm in Melbourne. Or do you need access to the car for logging and what not? I'll most likely get it all done once my tax comes through. Thanks.

Absolutely, I can load the tune and ship back to you. But you need to be able to log it with VCDS or ME7 logger to check the timing and add extra with unisettings. All of which I can lead you through.

Ok, thanks a lot for your help! I'll look into vcds and me7 logging over the next few weeks and also read up a bit more about the difference between stage 1 and stage 2 tunes, figure out if the performance gains between the 2 are worth the cost involved with getting downpipe and cooler. Thanks again..

You don't have to run a FMIC with phase 2. The downpipe is the only hardware necessary, but a FMIC is needed to run more timing then what the standard SMIC can handle and will certainly be a big help in summer with eliminating heat soak. I ran Gavs phase 2 for a while before adding my FMIC, still ran great, especially now it's in winter where heatsoak isn't so much of an issue.

If I were you I'd get a downpipe and tune first, then once you can afford it add on the FMIC. Even without the front mount, phase 2 is noticeably more lively the phase 1 and fuel consumption is better too

Ok yeah sounds good. I will do that then. I don't get my licence back for another 4.5 months so I will most likely have a cooler on before it gets driven much anyway but it's good to know it's not a necessity. I can't wait to get it done!

For a cheap path, just go stage 1.
For more fun, dump pipe, IC and stage 2.

Then you're down the path of working out how to get that new torque through the rubber and not wheelspin around. Fun problems to have.

Haha yeah it is a good problem to have. I'm thinking I'll just go stage 1 now and get coilovers and a rear sway bar... I've got my stereo fascia apart at the moment as well because I'm mounting an iPad in there to replace the stereo and It will be run off a Bluetooth amp. A fair bit of stuffing around moving the switches up higher and I'll lose my air vents and stuff but I think it's worth it..
