I've another question though. It's true there's more gain in horsies and torque by chipping it but does this brings more lag at low revs?

No (speaking for the APR chip) ... if anything the lag is reduced further. Also, some of the other minor mods (SEAT intake, Forge TIP etc) practically eliminate any lag ... that's my experience, anyway.

Hey all, instead of starting a new thread thought id throw this question into the mix. (If no reply, will make a thread :p)
I currently have a unichip type C (purchased for my previous car) Now that will cost me anywhere from 450-600 to tune and fit.
My other option is, well the re-flashes listed in the thread title. Granted these are quite a bit more money.
What do you reckon?

I wouldn't bother with the Unichip, a flash is a better solution. There's plenty to chose from, most of which have an input on the forum. Me included.
Have a longer read through the forum and use the search function, it has been done to death over the years.

Just quickly, how could I justify the extra money? Aside from the fact its much neater, no cutting of harnesses
I am only a first year mechanic, and we make VERY little money!
Along the lines of $7/hr, so the difference is well over a weeks wage for me.

It's not about the stupid questions more the repeating yourself.

Cutting the loom of a pretty new car is a drastic thing to do. If you ruin it, it'll be a lot more to sort out.

Seriously, sell the Unichip and save for a real flash. You are buying something created by people familiar with the VW brand. The flash will have had a decent amount of time spent on development and will ultimately be more reliable.

You will be able to troubleshoot better with diagnostic software if you need to. VCDS won't be able to look at the Unichip.
