**Searched the threads and didn't find what i was looking for...sorry if this is a repeat and my search skills suck**

    Hey Bumpnuck,

I just got the APR downpipe and High Flow Cat put in.
    Hhhmm my opinion so far.
Much more of a boom through the exhaust but this for me tricks me into perceiving the car is sluggish or "heavier" because it sounds like the car is struggling more. This is my perception however. The DP and HFC also sounds quite "raspy" or metallic...this is possibly due to the new stainless steel and the tinniness is heard...this may (someone help) settle down once the insides cake up with exhaust deposits?
Also hear the turbo whistles more loudly..I can only guess this is once again due to the resonance of the new stainless steel.
All said I'm at this stage undecided if there is a "noticable" difference in power etc...I don't think so, I believe I'm very sensitive to changes in the cars performance but I guess should give it a week or two before drawing final conclusions...its a lot of cash for a little gain....nothing beats the chip for value for $$...you'll never achieve such a noticable mod again.

No I just jumped in and drove, I assume everything would have been set and ready to go.

I'd go and get the specific tune for the Dump Pipe. Its is out there, and I believe it dosn't cost any extra to get done.

oooohhh come on chipped, we've had this discussion before...

I think everything after a chip is an expensive kw crawl but fun if modding is ya thing...sure its not all about kw and nm but it gives you an idea.
i know the following response is in relation to an FMIC but the DP and HFC hold off heat soak for quite a while as well...

for the price of FMIC's and downpipes they should not be discarded. an FMIC may only give you an extra 5-7kW at the wheels from a cold start, but it will keep the power at that level consistently even when the car heats up. so really, an FMIC is giving you about 25-30kW at the flywheel on top of the chip on a hot engine.

There have been FMIC core's available on this site for ~$300 (about $950 installed), now thats value!

downpipes have been proven to give you about 7kW extra and hold off heatsoak for a lot longer as well.

but in my eyes these mods should be done AFTER the chip for maximum output!

    Rhys
when heatsoak sets in on my stock exhaust chipped Polo GTI and puts me back from 152kW to 110kw, you'll be still powering away with your 159kW (quoted) for quite some time. there's plenty of value there!

Surely the APR guys here (Quattro) would have installed it while doing the DP and HFC...I'll ring them and check.
So I should be feeling a noticeable difference? Actually feels like the turbo is spooling slightly later not earlier. Could all be in my head tho..I am getting a bit old.

Thanks everyone for your replies...i think i will be going ahead with the mod early this year...holding off heatsoak (without FMIC) is a big plus...also like the idea of free spooling and raspy note

Chipped: cheers for the offer...will definately T something up with you soon for a look/listen/pick your brain session - are you the white GTi with the cool APR Tuned badge @ the Galleria underground pre Sunday cruise?

Last question...new exhaust tip - anyone done it? Reccomendations? Note change at all?? Thinking of doing it after the dump/cat mod....will have to have a talk with Brian @ Quattro and see what he recommends
