Anyone up for a Polo R?

    http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/r...0205-ni6v.html

"We are testing several other R models. We have built up a Tiguan R [prototype] and we are waiting on the reaction to the Polo GTI that comes out later this year to decide whether to do a Polo R."

The Polo R model seems likely to go into production, however, and rumours suggest it will be powered by a 1.4-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine with about 140kW and fuel consumption of less than 7.0 litres per 100km.

Not sure on the accuracy of the article.

The Tiguan R-Line is already on sale in europe and on order for north america.
There were no engine upgrades at all, purely cosmetic.

There could be a market for the Polo R if it was AWD like the other .:R models, however i don't think they would make it.

I get the impression that VW's R-Line is more about trim/equipment than performance - the same as Audi's S-Line.
    i.e. you can get an "A4 S-line" that isn't an S4.
Just like you could get an R-line MKV Golf that wasn't an R32 (but had some more aggressive external looks). R-line fog grills on a GT sport for instance.

So while its confusing - they are two separate things.
One is relating to trim on a basically standard car (R-line), the other to overall performance (.:R).

...and yeah, I'd love to see a Polo R that isn't just about a bodykit and wheels!

Tiguan R will be a sports model totally different to the current R line.

Polo R may actually make it into AWD territory as an AWD model (TDI offroad) has always been on the cards. But I suppose it'd be a Polo Cup equivalent in the end ....

    Scirocco R isn't AWD.
And it's just R now. They've dropped the .: for the Golf and Scirocco. Mores the pity too cause it just looks like a weak copy of the Jaguar R logo now.

If they do a twin charge with 140kW I highly doubt they'd go AWD as it makes putting 155kW through the front wheels or a Golf GTI look a bit silly. A nice trick diff or something would be nice though.

    Cheers,
    Trent

I've ssen a lot of articles recently that the Audi A1 / S1 (based on the polo platform) will not have AWD, so the chances of the POLO R having it seem slim to none.

    for instance - http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/18/q...y-to-arrive-w/

A Polo R with only 140kW? No thanks, I've already got more Makes you wonder how much you'd get from the new GTI too

Doubt if they'd go AWD - they'd have to junk the rear torsion beam setup just for that model for a proper independent setup - $$$$$$

If Polo R is approved I doubt we will see it if it has 140kW as it would most likely sit very close to VGAs prized Golf GTI in price. (Current Polo GTI 32K+ Golf GTI 38K+)

Unless of course its a limited edition like the GTI Pirelli or Mk4 R32.

If we get the Polo R, I reckon it will be the twincharge motor. With some cosmetic bling
