Correct me if I'm wrong but I heard that the engine is the same engine taken from the Golf GT.

Test drove the GT but went with the Polo GTI cause it was newer, very quick engine for 1.4. Quite a lot of potential.

@Servo. Sorry I'm confused by your comment.

The existing Polo GTI has a 1.8L Turbo. It's a rather old engine - at least 10 years old.
The next Polo GTI is still yet to be announced - it will probably have the 1.4L Turbo/Supercharged motor, but who knows when that'll be here in Australial.

When I was in the market (around November) for a car I wanted a new car. Firstly I wanted a Golf GTI, 3 doors, manual with leather. My mate got his in 06 with pretty much all the options for 35K with a corporate discount. All the dealers in I went to looked on the database and said to me that all they had was 4 doors, DSG some with sunroof and leather which just made the price further away from my budget. I tried to order but they said that they don't make the 3 door manual any more and it would probably be DSG, 4 door.

They had a Golf GT (2006) model sitting in the yard which I took for a test drive. Had about 36000km on the clock was 3 years old so I tried to negotiated on a price but they wouldn't budge. So I kept looking until I bumbed into a 2009 Polo GTI which I bought.

Sure I could've got the extended year warranty on the GT but the Polo already had the 3 years and I didn't have to pay extra, it wasn't preowned, leather, manual and a sick Shadow Blue colour. Another bonus was, it was within my budget. Sure it didn't have the creature comforts as the GT but with what I saved on the Polo gave me extra cash to do bits and pieces.

Don't want to start flame war but Golf GTI's have flooded the market and you can't turn your head without seeing one. And I agree they are the better car, but the little sibling can hold it's own. I've driven my mates Golf so I know how it feels but I love how the Polo drive. Like everyone said it's just like a go kart and it's very aesthetics. And down here it's far in between when you see one. So it makes it a little bit special.

P.S I couldn't wait for the new Polo GTi either I needed a car then.

Cools. I have a Polo GTI too, but it doesn't have a 1.4L motor! I think that's what confused me about your first post

Understandable, sorry for the confusion. So yea I've driven the 1.4 TSI engines in the Golf GT's which "should" be the same engine in the 2010 Polo GTI's. Such a powerful engine especially when it's only a 1.4.

Agreed. The 1.4tsi with dsg in a car as good looking as the new polo means no other manufacturer has a chance of picking up an award for a few years.

My Golf gt sport was great fun. The new polo is a beautiful thing.

Any further news on the polo release?

    Hi all,

Does any one have any new/definitive info on when the new polo is due?

Most sources say April but I would have thought we would be seeing local press tests by now if this was the case.

Just sold my MKV golf to get something "runabout" based and looking at the 1.2L turbo but not sure how long I can go carless for...

Any info, credible source or not would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Hi mate, expect to see them around May. They usually release them around the same time the sales staff and technicians get sent for new model training. I've been booked in for the first week of May, so I'd probably see one lob into my dealership a week either side. It's always been the case in the past.

I've heard from a few sources that the Polo will be out end of May and the Polo GTI mid to late November. But, this could also just be BS.
