Well, the new Polo GTI is already 249NM, so it'd only be going to 320 from 249, which is only 28%.

Compared to the old Polo GTI which was 220NM by standard, and with APR Stage I ECU went to 328NM - or a 49% increase.

I didnt mean is was a big ask for the tuners, anybody can bump up the boost, but it is my opinion that the long term side effects for the driveline and turbo durability of such large increases is not safe.

My opionion is not based on years of vw specific data - I have none and I am new to vw so they may be the exception, but I am not new turbos and broken gearboxes

hey fintelboss it shouldnt be a problem- naturally you'll be placing more stress on the drive line, but as for turbo durability- i absolutely thrash thrash thrash the crap outta my car, and my tune is pretty aggressive- you can hear the turbo boosting audibly during idle. i've had the tune for just about 30,000km's, and the turbo's doing fine. i'm giving it 40,000kms more before i pre-emptively replace the turbo and going by reports on diesel tuning forums, this turbo should be good till then.

but i want a new polo tdi too- i'd keep my current polo as a daily drive and put a hold on any more proper mods to it, and make the new pog tdi my baby.

The missus saw the photos of the new polo and has decided that she wants one. The GTI might come in a bit too much since they're not giving a choice on the extra doors or DSG which is a shame unless they have a decent corp discount etc. But a manual 1.2 TSI should be ok.

Given we tend to find out info before the dealers tell us, when are they likely to be available for sale?

Dave, I'd go for the 1.6TDI when it gets in ... 77kw/250NM std and 110kw/330NM chipped, which will make it quite lively .... anfd good on fuel ...

There will be no chipping, but we're not fans of diesels anyway. I know they're good on petrol and have strong performance but every golf I see on the road that is like 6+ months old just seems to sound like a tractor.

She'd be happy with a run out GTI but I'd rather she got the new one. If a new GTI could be had for under $28k then that would be a no brainer.

Can't see VWA bringing in the P GTI under 28K.

Yeh I can get it if the negotiating doesn't work. She likes the cloth interiors etc so won't need any options.

I wouldn't be holding your breath guys.
Based on the existing Polo GTI @ $26,990 + $1,500 for 5 door (which it will apparently be available in ONLY), and +$2500 for DSG (again, standard), plus the regular $1995 dealer delivery + onroads, and it will cost around $34,750 - on the road.
To get it at $28k drive away you'd need to get a 19.4% discount - which is not going to happen - ESPECIALLY on a car at this price point.

Even with the CURRENT Polo GTI you'd need to get a 8.6% discount to get it for $28k drive away - so it's not reasonable to expect you'll be able to do so for a car with an extra 2 doors and DSG as standard.
