Well this all went bad, so let me try and get past this.

I love this little forum, I'm happy that the Polo area gets so much attention and how passionate people are bout the Pog.

I like to see people come here and show us their car, ask questions, give advice, talk about problems, etc. I've said my bit, but clearly not as subtly as I should have...

GTI_PAPA, I apologise for any ill done, I guess what I should have said was that it would be nice to see a photo of your ride, hear anything good you like about the car, get some info on you, info on anything you'd like to do to the car as well as help you with the issues you are having.

I was frustrated by something else going on at the time and should not have brought my ill will to this forum.

As for this issue raised, I had a similar sound and was told it was the radiator bolts which sounds awfully like what Jmac had mentioned near the headlights. I wasn't sure I believed the dealership as the noise was clearly in the end of the dash to my ear to the point where I was trying to remove the side air vent to find what was rattling around.

    Good luck.

is the rattle there at all speeds?

I'd only just started to notice clunking in the front end of my car when travel at a snails pace on rough roads, I'm however suspecting it's the bushes.

    Hey guys,

Jmac, checked fixings as advised, all tight and nothing loose. Back to the drawing board again. All I know is that if I apply heavy pressure on the armrest, it seems to quieten down. Logically, you would think it was door skin, but upon removal, rattle still evident (even with door open). Other than pulling apart the carrier, I've pretty much exhausted what I can do.

To answer the last post, rattle is constant. The bumpier the road gets, the worse it becomes. Seems to get worse the longer the trip also.

loosen and tighten the 2 M8 spline bolts that holds the door lock to the door, see if the noise changes, ive had a few that needed a piece of rubber between the lock and door, the factory stuff didnt cut it..

    Hey guys,

Think I had a breakthrough tonight. Just through sheer frustration I seem to have found the rattle. I was again messing around with the door, when in a bit of a angry moment, gave the door sill a hit whilst the door was slightly ajar. Wouldn't believe it, but the door rattled.

Did a little more investigating and found the following:
    1) With the door between closed and first notch, whenever I knocked door sill, rattle...
    2) If I applied slight downward pressure on the door, and again did the same, no noise.
    3) With door at any other position (2nd & 3rd notch) no noise whatsoever.

The rattle is coming from the lower hinge. Might it be the spring mechanism or just one of the 3 rollers? Fingers crossed this is it, as it's driving me crazy...

    Cheers.

    Hey guys,

    Update re: rattle.
After stuffing around for two afternoons trying to pinpoint exactly where rattle is coming from, I may have solved the problem. It's the spring on the lower hinge that's making the noise. I tried all manner of things to quieten the noise (sprays, degreasers etc), but no luck. I then tried jamming a plastic wedge under the middle section of the spring, a run around the block and all sorted.

I know I couldn't keep that wedge in there permanently, so I tried a bit of gentle persuasion with a very large screw driver, and it seems to have worked. I think this is just a temporary solution, but nonetheless seems to have sorted the noise. If it persists, will then approach dealer.

I'd take it back to the dealer. After what you've gone through you should expect it to be done properly and not temporary. My 2c.

Am very hesitant to take it back to dealer. As you may have read, I have had nothing but grief from dealer. Every time it goes in, something gets damaged or things aren't put back together properly. Enough reason to see if I can sort it myself...

Any thoughts as to a penetrating spray/adjustment etc that might permanently sort this problem peoples?

    Cheers.
