    Annoying rattle part2

    Hey Guys, me again.

As described before, I have a an annoying rattle coming from the drivers door/dash area that is driving me nuts. Anyhow, I have an update to the noise, but do not know the cause/where to look. The other night driving home, I leant on the door armrest, and realized that the noise momentarily went away. I tried it again, and the noise went away. When I arrived home, pulled the door skin off, and went for a spin around the block, and the noise was still there. So it's not the door skin rattling etc. Without an armrest to lean on, i couldn't place pressure on the metal door skin in order to pinpoint where the noise was coming from, but it was louder.

My question is, "Why is the noise going away with pressure on the armrest?" Loose door hinge? Window mechanics knocking against inner door skin?

    Thanks for your help,
    Con-Nuts...

Could it be the window rattling inside? I know my window sometimes rattles but not consistently. Other than that it maybe the electric window mechanism/motor or perhaps the speakers in the doors? I guess there are a few parts in the door that could be the culprit. Is it under warranty? If so take it in and get them to solve it for it should be covered under warranty if something has come loose.

    Hey guys,

Just an update on the door rattle.
    1) Took the car in to dealer one afternoon, just to have a mechanic come for a drive and confirm noise. Noise confirmed, all good.
    2) Car booked in for investigation/diagnose problem. 1xday and 40+km's later (whilst car was a dealers), problem diagnosed (faulty window lifter). Parts ordered and car booked in for remedial work.
    3) Remedial work completed, called to pick-up. Told all is sorted etc. Drive car off lot, and hey presto, rattle still there.
    4) Turned around, back into dealer, not happy. Mechanic sent for yet another drive to see if rattle there...can't hear it. Swapped sides, and eventually acknowledges rattle there, but not the same???
    5) Advised to book it in again to diagnose problem (wasn't this done in step 2???

I'm at a loss guys, my poor car's been back to the dealer far too many times (+10 times now), and every time it comes back with something else wrong (crunching gears, scratched bonnet etc.). What do I do? Is there a VW service centre that can be trusted to do the right thing? After this last episode, I'm seriously considering selling up.

with regards to the rattle, you must bear in mind that while the car might cost $30k on road, it's still based on a vehicle half that price. Perhaps expectations are not really aligned.

which dealer are you going to? Sounds awfully similar to my experience with a particular dealership..

This may sound silly but ive seen it on a couple of polos. Check the T30 Torx bolts on the front panel. Seriously the bolts above the headlamps. They come loose and resonate.
Remove it and put a blob of medium loctitie on the bolt and screw it back in tight. Like i say seen a couple now and sounds like inside the door. It transfers from the front panel back.
    Try it

TBH mate, I don't often read your posts as they are always about issues or something you are not happy with. Other than your original posts I don't think I've seen you on here unless it was to tell us about an issue.

    Sorry, having a bad day...

Yes that worked for me. The bolts on the headlights. Tightened and no rattles at all. They resonate all the way up the door panels. I could have sworn this was in the door too.

Just a suggestion, maybe negative comments about other members should be kept to a minimum if you're having a bad day.

To answer a previous question, dealer is Kloster VW in Newcastle. Thanks Jmac, will check what you mentioned this weekend.

Re: my original posts, whenever I took my previous polo to be repaired/serviced in London, it would always be sorted. Since returning to oz, dealings with the above have been quite deflating, hence moans.

Mate i think your comment there was a bit unfair, the man is having a bad run with his car and is on here looking for help and thats what we should do, help him. I hope the bolts on the support panel fix your rattle, like i say done a few now. you would swear its behind the door panel.
    Good luck
