If you are in the manufacturing mood, I think the inlet for the Seat one is too far back from the grille and not big enough for a ram style intake.

Unfortunately, to make space for a ram style system, some alterations to the bumper area need to be made which requires removal of the front bumper.

    Pain...

    removal of bumper

please not again , i had to change the radiator which took 3 minutes , getting the front on and off 3 hours....

I don't think something like the MkV/VI item pictured below would require bumper removal... I am trying to get the solidworks model done atm, but believe there is enough space in the polo engine bay to fit something similar.

Then all we need to do is talk to some in CF manfufacturing who may be able to assist in lay-up after I have had time to make a mould.

Failing that, we could just do it out of fibreglass

i don't think that would be any better... still too much customisation required.

maybe a cone filter where the current intake starts is the easiest way.

What exactly would be required to start the DIY process??

Dummy up a solid intake system say out of clay or styrophone to get a good fit and check for space. Then fibreglass it and keep trial and error fitting until you get a workable model?

Or could we refabricate the standard one - enlargen it?

You could just buy a K&N Apollo kit and run the feed to the factory location for the same result with a far reduced cost.

have a look. open up the hood, see where the connection is, see how small the inlet section is and the strange bend at the start and how far back the inlet is from the grill.

The air will get in, its just not going to get any ram-air type assistance like I think it could / should.

The top of the radiator is partially in the way, but again you really have to look at it for yourself to see, i took a few photos, but its a bit convoluted.

You would have to make a female top and bottom half moulds, then using the cutout where the filter goes, fit your hand inside to lay it up... Let it dry, then take the top and bottom mould off too see if it works... If it doesn't you'll have to modify the mould until it does... Or...

I am trying to draw the engine bay up in solidworks and use that to get the dimensions correct first, then hopefully can make just one mould.. Don't know anyone who could lay it up though as my fibreglassing is not the best

The inlet on the intake above is only small, but you would be surprised at the ammount of air pressure on the front of the car...
