Ive been pro stock for moons, and against k and N and the likes due to poor filtration, yea the induction is better but filtration not so. Enclosure which has been mentioned here is paramount otherwise why have a filter at all?? What you want is an intake set up with cool stuff coming in, yes cones are good but not deep in the engine bay as you will draw in too much heat. The stock filter box in most cars are well set up for what they are but are also set up for noise reduction, so you can have a good hack at it with some results. Set up your intake so you get as much cool stuff in as you can and have some good filtration. Half assed jobs are no good with little or no benefits and the story goes you get what you pay for.
Cheers

Im a fan of stock airboxes and many cars have made good power with slight modifications to them but compared with a mk4 gti or a3t airbox the polo one seems to be more an answer to a packaging solution than to a performance one. The surface area of the panel filter seems quite small compared to other cars.
Seems that they made things really hard when it comes to this aspect of what is a fantastic engine. Locally a few mates have opted to go with the cone and a 90' bend inside the stock box which sucks up heat on a dyno but the improvement is definitely found on the road. This costs in the region of aus $35 so its definitely worth the try
Aren't the pleats quite deep? The surface area of the panel filter seems quite small compared to other cars.

Can anyone tell me if the Seat intake increases intake noise at all? I would like a bit more intake noise without being too obvious.
Yes, but I'm not sure if it would without chipping it first...
