    Aftermarket Muffler's

    Hey gang,

I'm wanting to conduct a little vox pop as to what aftermarket mufflers people are utilising at the moment and whether there are any suggestions to be made as to what I should look for when chosing mine.

    Feel free to list:

    • whether you purchased yours for aural pleasure or for performance gains.
    • how much coin you didn't spend on your significant other to afford yourself such a luxury
    • where you got the work carried out.

    Thanks y'all.

nice, very interested in following this as I still have a STD muffler.
Dont want to hijack your thread, but it may be nice to expand to inlcude downpipes as well ???
My reason for a STD muffler is to keep the noise levels more manageable...I would chnage this if there was a significnat performance gains, of which I have been told not.

I've already upgraded my downpipe so i'm not all that interested in the other options available for that part.

I was of the same thought, keep the standard muffler to keep a relatively stock sound, however i'm somewhat over that now and would like a bit more noise for the morning commute

Hiya! long time no speak from me. Been ridiculously busy and consequently am selling the Gti ...

But on topic; If you remember my car man, i had the rear muffler changed and the sound was still bone quiet, so i had it lopped off and some stainless steel pipe with tips put on and it made a sweet noise, still ridiculously quiet. I bring that down to the early model middle muffler and probably the well tuned exhuast VW made, so i would say lop it off and have pipe made up like mine did and i think yours would be the sexiest sounded GTI out there!

off topic - still selling bro?

Nah I think i'll keep it as a long term project and get back into it when I return to Australia at the end of '13.

    Why are you selling yours?

    Nice thread Ryan,

I'd like to find this out too as I'm considering changing the muffler purely for a bit more sound

The muffler I put on was Redback, sounded the same as stock, thats why my exhaust guy and I lopped off the muffler completely.
