Trust me Tim, they're extremely anal with stuff like that - especially if i'm replacing it with a larger pipe! lol If only things was that easy...

And Kai doesn't that phase you at all? haha - I wouldn't wanna pay for full comp. if it's not gonna cover me if i write it off *touch wood*

I'm with RACQ and have the chip. I brought the car 2nd hand, and the guy I got it off had the chip installed by the dealer.

I'm pretty confident if anything happens to the car they will never know about it. The only way they can see is to look at the actual ECU right? or drive it... and if they are inspecting it... it’s probably not going to be driven anywhere.

If for some reason they know its there i can still get away with no-one has touched the car since it was purchased. I have disclosed the leather seats which was put on aftermarket... and i will tell them about the stereo when i get round to it. I'm not too concerned.

I wrote off my old old swift 4 years ago delivering pizza. I stupidly told them (they didn't ask) that I was actually delivering pizza at the time. (this was AAMI) They said if it was my fault, they could have easily not paid out... but because it was someone else's fault... they didn't care and still paid out. So i'm also assuming if they don't actually get hurt financially... you can mod your heart out... but if it does hurt them... they will use any and all means to avoid handing over the $$$.

It's fairly well hidden so a dump pipe would be difficult for an assessor to pick up (unless they were looking for it, and umm, ..why would they? ..unless they were told it was there). It's not that radical a mod really, and if your insurance company is prepared to make your policy null and void over such a petty 'enhancement', then change insurance companies. Not all operate that way.

Yeahh I'm pretty sure an assessor wouldn't actually look for it if I'm claiming for a panel to be fixed..

However for some reason, a person lost control on the highway and wrote off the car... I'm pretty sure they'd search the whole car for any 'enhancements' that may have contributed to the accident...

... I don't know, maybe I'm too paranoid - but I know a chip would be fine lol

Particularly if you've injured someone in the accident. If an accident ended up in court, they will (and have) interrogate the ECU and everything else.

A Peugeot 307CC's ECU was interrogated after an accident which killed someone and was able to give them enough information to show that the driver wasn't doing anything illegal at the time. I can't be bothered finding the source, but it was a Sydney accident probably about 6-9 months or so ago.

It's up to you if you want to take the risk, but IMO it isn't worth keeping it a secret from the insurer. It can mean bankruptcy or even insurance fraud!

I agree with you, look at any insurance policy and there will be a out clause for the insurer if you fail to disclose anything that may affect their risk. ALL insurance companies look for reasons not to pay rather than reasons to pay. They don't exist to look after their policy holders, they exist to look after their shareholders.

    Cheers

These are legitimate points - however each owner/driver/policy holder would determine for themselves the level of risk they're prepared to live with. So for instance if someone wants zero exposure to risk (as outlined above) and they want mods, then they'll need authorisation from their insurer. Depending on the outcome, a decision is made to either proceed or not proceed with the mod (if not approved) or seek an insurer who will accept the mod.

My point is that we can exercise choice - so if an insurer doesn't meet your needs, find one who will.

    Thx Tim

Is that a support bracket in the middle? Also, yours is 3" right, what size is the standard dp?
