Advice for ipod & bluetooth adaptor installation

    Hi All,

    I have a 2007 polo GTI

I just bought myself the xcarlink I-pod adaptor with the bluetooth kit as well.

It will be used with an iphone not an ipod

I would like to install it myself as it looks easy enough and the kit came with the keys to remove radio..

    However..

I am not sure how easy it would be to route all the cables for the device. I read that most people put there unit in the glovebox but I didnt want to do this for two reasons
    1) glovebox is already small and so much stuff in there already and phone is not within reach should I want to use it
    2) because it has the bluetooth kit I am not sure if the cord would reach all the way from the glovebox to the drivers side for the microphone

I would really love to put the device in the bench underneath the steering wheel as that leaves the phone easily accessible should I want to still use it but I noticed there is no access holes here so I am assuming if I wanted to place the kit here I would have to cut holes?

Anyways I guess I would just like some advice for the placement of the unit without having to put it in the glovebox.. How many panels would I need to remove and how difficult is that for feeding the bluetooth part up to the drivers side?

I am considering just taking it to a car installation place to get them to do it if it looks too hard as I dont want to stuff the job up

    Thanks!

You can get cables to the bench under the steering wheel without cutting anything. That's where my ipod and microphone cables run.

    Yeh cheers for that!

I ended up working it out was so much easier than I anticipated

Got the xcarlink sitting nice and snug on the bench under the steering wheel.

Bluetooth controller sits there too and mic run up the side of door frame near the visor. Didnt even to remove and panels or make any holes..

    Happy boy

There is only 2. One with Ipod adaptor + aux in. The other is for USB stick and AUX in

For VW there are two different radio models with different plus. I have a 2007 polo gti which has the RCD 200 stereo so thats the one I got. I think pre 2004 polos have the delta stereo or something so needs that one

and yes it comes with the keys for removing stereo. I freaked out at first as I didnt know which way to put them in but and I couldnt get it out. I found by pushing the key in a bit more and pulling to one side got it out eventually.

But the key seems to work no matter which way you put it in and will release the stereo

    Good luck!

    If yes get this one

    ipod - http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.ph...4&cat=2&page=1
    usb - http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.ph...9&cat=2&page=1

if youre unsure about what to get just email this place they were quite helpful. And the unit arrived in 1 week. You can buy them from Australian sellers but they cost about the same and the aussie one didnt have the bluetooth kit. Also I wanted to make sure I had the latest version which is comptabile with the iphone for charging and the aussie seller couldnt really confirm the version he had

    Good luck

Someone did a nice install using a small dock mounted where the card holder goes, think it might have been BullerScott...
