Haha.. When I read the topic I thought you might have a written off mk4 r32 that you were going to gut and graft the drive train into a polo.. Oh well![]()

ANOTHER turbo? what happened to the vnt17?
and what's this about fwd vs awd? didnt some magazine, when testing ''hot hatches'' around philip island (iirc) say in the context of golf gti vs golf r (forget if they were tuned or not): "you dont need awd on the street, and it didnt help it on the track"...
if you're going to make a project car that's all about performance, is adding more weight via an awd system really going to help?
yes, people like to look at stats on paper and say "awd is gonna be so much better than fwd in a polo 1.8t with stock/frankenturbo/k04", but where's the proof? in terms of b-road spirited driving, i've been on some rather aggressive (read: brakes acrid and tyres screeching every corner) drives with the boys in victoria and it's never seemed that the awd cars have ever had any noticeable advantage over fwd cars on victoria's favored driving roads...
perhaps on the track, maybe, but then you're also lugging around an extra 150+ kgs.
it'd be unique, that's for sure...
take an awd for a drive in the rain and drive it hard and see if you can notice a difference, ive driven both golf r and scirocco r with stage 1 tune and I would always go for a golf r purely because its awd and better if your after power and the scirocco r gets ridiculous wheel hop

Meh. I don't mind slowing down a bit in the rain. For a small car, lightness rules.
Resident grumpy old fart
VW - Metallic Paint, Radial Tyres, Laminated Windscreen, Electric Windows, VW Alloy Wheels, Variable Geometry Exhaust Driven Supercharger, Direct Unit Fuel Injection, Adiabatic Ignition, MacPherson Struts front, Torsion Beam rear, Coil Springs, Hydraulic Dampers, Front Anti-Roll Bar, Disc Brakes, Bosch ECU, ABS
always go for a golf r? even despite that tsukuba proving test where the 'rocco cained everything- sti, evo 10, jdm civic type r, and golf in last place?
man, if the rain is a major factor in one's driving decisions, get some applicable tyres...
after all, a fwd with the right tyres and right tyre pressures, versus a "wahey theyurr folksss! mah cawrs got ay dubbya dee!" car who doesnt know what's up, will kill the awd car.
come for a drive. i've never seen you on a cruise.
