9N3 GTI - The Last Review

AFTER faithfully following tradition for the past few decades, it seems Volkswagen has now gone and thrown away the blueprint for the hot hatch...

Drive are such a bunch of hacks.

While that sounds like a lot for a vehicle this size, the reality is that the Polo GTI isn't as blisteringly hot as some of its hatchback competition. It goes very well but it isn't a class-leading performer in terms of its acceleration.
Against the super-mini's of it's day, it was class leading. Faster then the XR4 (marginally) and the swift sport. They sounds like they're comparing it to ALL hot hatches.

Standard equipment was also good and you'll get a CD player, airconditioning, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and 16-inch alloy wheels. And cruise control, something that is often missing on European hot-hatchbacks.
ummm I didn't get steering wheel-mounted audio controls, did anyone else ??? They also left out the full-size alloy, which I would think is a big plus in these days of space savers.

They left out the radiators and the O2 sensors. Be stuffed if anyone round here has come close to 7.9L/100km combined.

I was rountinely getting 7.9 for about 7000kms on mine (chipped, bmc, seat, fmic)

I agree on your take on the review though. It seems like reviewers are forever comparing the Polo GTI to larger more expensive hot hatches, really the polo is a Hot Supermini. Compared to an XR4 is miles ahead. (My mum has an XR4, bad fuel economy, not quick and crappy interior...crazy handling though.) But compared to a Golf its miles behind.

I'm not exactly gentle with my car, and I'm averaging 7.5L/100km. Mind you, most of that is highway driving.

Interesting to see they mention sunroof issues, mine has been flawless.
