Burnt clutch smells can hang around a while, is it slipping?
Std clutches can handle Phase 2 power, Stage 1 kits with a solid flywheel are the usual upgrade to handle up to 300hp.
other day I was in traffic uphill half clutching till clutch went mental steaming & poison gas.
since then eased off clutch much as possible, no hills. STILL clutch burn smells though everytime driving.
is this residual burn off or is it the driving style still burning on every drive?
what now? I can't use any less clutch without stalling. is there a heavy duty clutch or something?!?!?!

Half clutching will kill any dry clutch. You're only meant to transition between gears (and rest) with the things - not use them as an intermediate gear nor handbrake (I cringe when I see and hear a car on a hill being held on the clutch).
If the traffic is moving slower than 1st gear stall speed, then stop/start instead of crawling up the hill.

- day it steamed i was clutch holding hill
- since then no clutch hill holding
- clutch use only on takeoff
- reverse gear bit more half clutch to reverse slowly. is this a problem? there's no other way?
- clutch in , neutral when coming to stop
- clutch use is now so minimal/paranoid that stalls are frequent :/
- mechanic had a look / test drive said clutch seems fine so guessing no to slipping
You are over thinking this mate.
If it doesn't spin up in 4/5th gear as it comes on boost, the clutch is fine.
The other test is try setting off in 5th, as you would in 1st. Not slipping the clutch so you drive off but with the expectation that it will stall.
If the clutch is shot, it will definitely slip doing this.
