Tyre options? Federal 595Evo or Kumho KU31?

    hi guys,

my front tyres are getting worn down, need to get them changed. Currently I got Kumho KU31, I have obtained quotes from various providers in Canberra for the KU31 (205/45R16), the cheapest place can do it for $180 a tyre fitted, does it seem reasonable? (I had the KU31's on a previous car before in Victoria, they were 205/45R17, and from memory they were cheaper than $180, bloody Canberra prices!)

One of the tyre places recommended Federal 595Evo for $170 a tyre fitted. Is it better or worse compared to the KU31?

any other recommendations for an inexpensive replacement for the KU31?

    Thanks!

do a search of the tyre sticky. Found this:

KU31 are good for the price but tend to wear on the edges prematurely if pushed. KU31 also need a decent pressure (38psi+) to perform at their best.

The Federals are a great all rounder - street, track, wet conditions all very grippy and predictable. Wear is exceptional also. A little noisy but I have everything set on anti old person with no rear seats or spare.

I paid $100 each fitted/balanced for KU31. Will likely buy another set shortly for street use and moving to semi's for track work. I've done ~22k so far and there's very little tread left, but I can't blame the tyre for that. They've been fine. Though at $180 I'd be considering others.

    True.

I have Bridgestone RE002 were $175 a corner but I didn't ring far and wide, just needed to not die due to wet roads.

    Mission accomplished.

Tyre options? Federal 595Evo or Kumho KU31?

I've had ku31's and sp2000 on the golf, now sp sport maxx on the polo. The ku31 was a quiet tyre compared to the dunlops, sp sport maxx has better wet grip, ku31 had great predictable dry grip but squishy sidewalks which resulted in higher edge wear, also wear is high on the ku31 vs the sport maxx. The sport maxx is a squealer the ku31 rather quiet.

I'm going the 595 Evo next because by all reports its a great tyre in the dry for the money, not great in the wet but... Unless I can get a good deal on Pirelli or track down the Yokohama that I want...
