9N1 Front Brake Rotor Limit and Recommandations

Can anyone tell me what the minimum front rotor (256mm Diam) thicknes is on a 2003 Polo? I have measured the front rotors and they are 20.1mm/20.4mm in thickness at 53,000kms. I can't find a minimum thickness stamped on the rotor itself, unless its on the inside face?

Also what are poeple using as OEM replacements? I have done a search through the forum and brands like DBA, RDA and Zimmermann come up. Are there any other rotors worth considering? I'm just after normal street use rotors with good braking and improved logetivity (ie last a few pad changes).

If anyone can point me to good/well priced 256mm Diam front rotors that'd be appreciated.

As for pads I already have quotes for Bosch (Quick Stop) @ $64, Lucas @$110 and Bandix GTC @ $120 a set. From the forum it looks like the Lucas pads are a good buy.

I'm pretty sure yours are 22mm new & 20mm minimum.

I got a quote on some DBA street series rotors today from AutoCheap as I was driving past... $140 each

Protex rotors were quoted at $65 each

Bendix Ultimate front pads were quoted at $202 for the front set. pricey but they generate minimal dust from what I've read which sounds good

I think you can do better than Bendix Ultimate. Bendix are a company that were caught with their pants down when asbestos was banned from brake pads. They never really caught up (and I have probably fitted near 1000 sets of Bendix in the asbestos era - great pads back then).

If you want something in the Bendix Ultmate style then look at Ferodo DS Performance/2000 (they go by both names) from Competition Friction.

Truly, if your just bopping around the suburbs & occassionally being a hoon up & down a mountain, have a talk to GSLrallysport - they can do a pad/disc package for you. They carry 3 or 4 brands of rotors and half a dozen brands of brake pads. If your after bang for buck it will probably be RDa rotors & either QFM or Remsa pads.

Re: dust - you just have to live with it if you want good stoppers. You can reduce it dramatically if you spend a day clay-barring your rims & sealing them with a synthetic "wax". I don't think the dirt is from the brakes anyway - it's just road grime. I'm at 57,000km & my brakes are at 8mm (almost no wear) and my wheels get filthy - it can't be brake dust.
