I have heard that lag is slightly increased with an ECU retune due to the efficiency curve characteristics of the compressor and the increased boost levels... Still we are only talking a few hundred RPM (i.e. 2300rpm vs 1900rpm)

The tune controls the wastegate. As the wastegate is opened by boost pressure, it's closed to begin with ( no boost to open wastegate). The lovely 1.8T can be mapped for boost to come on early or late, early giving more low torque or late giving more top end power.

1 bar of boost from a tune alone is not a problem, but also not expected with no other mods. If you don't put your foot flat, you will have less boost but with improved torque and i believe improved spooling.

It's the boost controller (in our case N75) that controls the boost onset. The programming of the N75 controls lag.

That's what I'm after too and I plan I getting this the moment I can convince myself that I don't really need that new camera lens
