You need to get serious and start shifting at 1200rpm and cruising from 50km/h onwards in 5th, Scotty. The Pod will easily do this on flat roads. Yep. flat6 certainly knows as he gets 10-15 extra litres (I get 10.75 more). I used about 57 litres before chickening out and filling with my last tank.
The stupid MkVI Golf can't be vented so the Polo can actually hold more fuel than the Golf
