    Or a DeDion tube setup. It's a sort of hybrid IRS/beam. You can see the basic principle here --






    The more I see it, the more I like it.
    The rear diff fixes to the body and the 'beam' connects the two arms around the diff.
    i really like that set up too man but put that into practice in the small 9N3, not so sure

    Sounds like a nightmare. From my Subaru days, a WRX or Forester with STI engine, brakes, complete drive train does make it an STI. I've driven (on a skid pan) a 07 Forester fitted with all STI running gear, an 02 WRX and 03 STI back to back, the difference in performance is simply not comparable with the STI smashing em both for power down ability and cornering predictability. My point, adding bits that aren't designed to be there doesn't necessarily make it better to drive. Think RenaultSport Clio V6 (rear drive), awesome in theory, but in reality it was bugger all quicker than the FWD.

    With all the added weight and complexity (assuming it could even fit), means needing more power to get the same outcome as FWD only.

    Start with a MKIV R32 and work out how to dress it like a polo, haha

    To be honest with the amount of money you would be spending you might as well just buy a Westfield or if you want more a Caterham kit.

    This would be an epic project.

    For me, I'd just buy a Quattro TT and you've got much the same hardware in a better designed chassis for less...

    Still, I'd kiss your feet in worship if you got it done.

    If you just bought a Quattro TT or Golf you'd just have a run-of-the-mill Golf or Audi, where's the fun in that?
    That said, this is all just a hypothetical at the moment. I think realistically money would be better spent on a LSD and getting everything setup correctly.

    Learning that the Polo R is not going to be AWD gave me serious sad face.. and unless I suddenly start to like the Mk7 Golf, I see myself keeping the Polo for a while. May as well do something worthwhile with it
    Can you imagine a 2.0L stroker with a GT2860 or the like and AWD in 1100kg?




    Anyways..

    Doing a bit more research, IRS v DeDion seems a hot topic with the Lotus and Caterham boys. General consensus is that a DeDion tube setup will be lighter, cheaper, easier to setup and give 98% results of an IRS getup. Sounds pretty good.

    A custom rear subframe bolted between the rear chassis rails, rubber mount the diff, coilovers where the shocks are now...
    Not sure on what hubs I'd use though...
