    320bhp VW Polo GTI

Hey did anyone else read the article in May Issue of GOLF+.? Some guy in England with a CW Polo GTI with 320BHP as his daily driver. I think the 320 is at the wheels as well.

I knew of it but haven't read the article.

I've seen the guys thread on some UK forum however it doesn't go into that much depth. From memory he works for a performance shop so everything was done at cost.

    Found it:

I tried to find some TT comps in Aus to no avail I wanted to do the same but a red stripe instead of white like his.

    320hp is only 238kw.

You have to remember that the 1.8T engine is cabaple of 250kw without serious internal work. (1 of the reasons I bought the car)

If you do extensive internal work the sky can literally be the limit. I have seen (on a VW Dyno day) a 1.8t in a Mk1 Golf make 356kw at the wheels with the help of internal work, a big turbo and a bit of NOS...... (and that was at 1800m above sea level in thin air)

Even APR advertises 260kw as their upper limit for the Polo GTI without internal work.... merely a stage III+ kit......

Whether you can actually use that much power is an altogether different story ......

for those who were at the brisbane dyno day, you may remember that the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale only pulled 233kW atw. i tell you what, i would be bloody stoked if my little Polo could claim a higher kW reading than a Challenge Stradale!!

I'm fairly sure its 320bhp at the fly not at the wheels.

238kw atw would be getting towards 300kw(400hp) at the motor. Proof - Challenge Stradale - Maximum power: 317 kW (425 bhp) @ 8500 rpm

That Stradale was down on power on the day. The owner was not happy if you can remember, with it being moddded as well .......

Should have been closer to 250kw on the wheels.....

Anyway 200kw on the wheels is a big deal in any small and light FWD. Can make for entertaining driving though .... .... Massive torque steer, tyres scrabbling for grip well into 4th gear, insane overtaking rush ..... all good ....

they have the schematics on that page. Use the measurements and check the clearance on your car.
