Yes the new Polo's are lighter. The cars are larger but the engines and fittings are lighter, making the car lighter overall. Keep in mind also that forced induction engines have significantly higher levels of torque than N/A engines. With cars as small as the Polo, torque increases will be the key to faster accellaration.
As for the new Polo GTI, it will have the 1.4 TSI engine which is much lighter and has a claimed output of 125kW/240Nm, compared to the current 110kW/220Nm. Add the DSG gearbox available in the new generation Polo (possibly standard in the upcoming GTI) and i'm sure 0-100 times will be quicker than the current model. Lighter car with a more powerful engine and a fast-changing gearbox, would be surprised if it was the same as the current.
