    2008 VW Polo TDi Results

Okay guys we just started developing our TDi Polo and thought for the benefit of all the members we would post our results. For the moment it is completely stock besides removed the rear muffler. On 12/12/09 We took the car down to Willowbank Test n Tune for the first round of testing.

Current Status of the car = Stock standard minus rear muffler removed. We know a few people had pulled the trumpet out of the airbox so we thought we would test that and report back with some real world figures.

First three runs of the day and the next 2 were run in similar conditions being it was a fairly quiet day. The car was run in street trim with approximately 1/2 a tank of diesel and only spare wheel was removed as it had a slow leak in it anyway. Still had change floating around the car and service books etc in the glovebox.

Each test was also run with the ESP Off.

Without the air trumpet in the box we recorded runs of 17.44, 17.43 and 17.38.
We then put the air trumpet back in and recorded runs of 17.22, 17.1 and 17.02.
Each time we launched the car in a similar manner. I figured I was probably leaving on too many revs but for the sake of continuity I thought I would continue with it.

Anyway after we had a fairly satisfactory base to compare results I started messing around with launches. At the end of the day we ran a 16.86 @ 79mph.

Next jobs on the card will be a full exhaust system, followed by Air intake, We haven't decided whether to try the PD160 intake or design our own custom intake. We will also be fitting a custom code ECU Reflash.

End result of the car will hopefully be to comepete in the Australian Tarmac Challenge next year and as we go we will post results and what is happening with the car.

Edit: Forgot to mention will post Timeslips when I can, left them at the gf's place. (whoops).

But as a quick review without the trumpet in I noticed a distinct loss of power and as soon as we put it back in it revved noticeably smoother in the top end.

Will be interesting to see what u can get out of the little beastie.

Was there much variance in the trap speed between trumpet in place or trumpet removed?

In regards to the PD160 intake. It would be fantastic if someone would develop a decent solution locally.

There was. Off the top of my head there was around a 2-3mph Variance in Trap Speed between Trumpet in place and trumpet removed.

Re: the PD160 intake, it is something we could probably look at, but at the end of the day it depends if it is viable to make something or not.

cool! Someone is doing some local developement on the Polo TDI!

any chance of a bigger turbo? The stock VNT15 is the most restrictive part of the Polo TDI

Haven't decided at this stage. We are most likely looking at moving onto a Golf Diesel when the time comes but it is certainly a possibility. However if there is a customer who wants one we might look at developing it.

there are a couple of bigger turbo options for it, AND some good power to be made I plan to... eventually

At this stage it isn't something we had planned on doing as we wanted to keep it as warranty friendly as possible. We also plan on running it in the Australian Tarmac Challenge if it goes ahead this year so to keep it in street class we can't really go a bigger turbo.
