My first car was a 1988 silver Honda CRX. It was an awesome car, I had it lowered 15 inch alloys, extractors and sports exhaust. Lots of fun only weighed 890 kgs great power to weight ratio. However insurance premiums caused me to sell it.

My first car was a 1982 Toyota Supra 1GEU with a 2L I6 and a 5-speed W58 gearbox. It was lowered and a 2.5" pipe all the way with 2 hotdogs. Sounded pretty good. I loved that car. In the end it was giving me problems with electrics, ran on 5 cylinders for 10 mins and then the 6th one would kick in. Noone knew what the problem was

My 1st car that i bought was a 1988 MR2 T-Bar (AW11) i still have it in my dads garage and it runs and is roadworthy, though its back in Ireland still. Before that i drove a couple of dads cars, little Nova, 95 Corsa (barina), Clio, etc.

The Corsa had the old 1.5 Turbo Diesel lump in it and it got an absolute flogging, its still running around with the same wheels i put on it all those years ago.

First Brand new car i bought is the current Golf, always bought 2nd hand and was also fortunate enough to have had a good run on company cars over the years.

my first car in 1981 was a 1978 Escort 2L Rally Pack.

the fact that I had to wait at the dealers to collect it because it wouldnt start and they were waiting for a spare to come in - should have been a sign of things to come!!

Anyway, the car had been rebored 40thou oversize, high compression pistions, fully blueprinted cylinder head, racing cam, full exhaust/extractors.

It even sat on 235/50/13 tyres which looked monster

From a reliability perpective it was a dog, but it was just sooo much fun to drive!!

i kept it for 7 years before starting a family and buying something a bit more family friendly and reliable (original Corolla 4AGE twin cam hatch).

however, this Escort really helped me to define my car fanaticism, and I've absolutely adored performance cars (and spending $$$ on them) ever since

maybe my first car sounds bogan, but I was 19, silly and just HAD to get it out of my system ...
VH interceptor, too many mods to list, eg 360 V8 stroker, 780 double pumper Holley, turbo 400/B&M quick shift, straight 3" bathurst exhaust, Billsteins on (back then) 17" black BBS rims etc etc. It hammered !!! Eventually cops/EPA discovered it and took it off the road. It was fun while it lasted..

Mine was (wait for it) an Austin A99 Westminster, think it was about a 1959 or 1960 model. Big tank of a thing, 3 litre six cylinder with twin 1 ¾ SU carbies, 4 speed column shift with O/D on 3 & 4 and unusual for it’s day had disc brakes on the front. It was finished in what looked like battleship grey primer and had leather trim (worn out like the rest of the car!) but was a very comfortable thing to drive actually.

It was blowing a bit (more like a lot) of smoke when I bought it, dealer said it needed a tune up…….yeah right! It actually seemed to use more oil than petrol but went like the clappers. It was capable of easily breaking the old ton (100 Miles per hour or 160Ks) and of course in those days of prima facie speed limits one could do so (perhaps) legally on some roads.

One of it’s more interesting features was that it had vacuum operated windscreen washers and because the engine was so worn out they would only operate under extreme deceleration!

I ended up towing it to the tip and buying a 998cc Mini Cooper that started a long lasting love/hate relationship with Coopers and Cooper S’s.

    Cheers

Blitzen: you're spot on with the tree. Car suffered servere understeer when I entered a corner at low speed and the back end started sliding out after I tried countering it but by then I was too close to a tree already
