    This is Gold!

i've looked through (what i thought was every thread) on wheels, and wasn't aware of an 8" wides.

Is there a handling benefit using 8"s with a 205 tyre, or is it an aesthetic thing?

Concerned about adding unsprung weight to the car (sorry for the partial hijack)

Yep, more tread to the floor = more traction, better cornering, handling etc...esp in conjuction with good susp etc...I noticed huge diff going from 6.5" stock to 7.5" rims...can't wait to get on 8"'s

If you go Enkei RPF1 17x8" ET35 like I plan to you will save a whopping 8kgs plus over stock and IMO are my all time favourite wheels and are used world wide in bucket loads of motorsport events because of their strength and weight. You can get them on Ebay for about $1600 inc shipping with the AU dollar at the moment

if your really concerned you could always roll the front panel guards. they would fit no probelm after that.

Yes I am lowered on H&R springs with stock shock. Have whiteline sway bars front and back. No problems here.

I'm a little confused about the wheel and tyre sizing.

If a 205/40/17 tyre is designed for a 7" wide wheel, but will fit on a 8" wide wheel, would the traction change? Its the same rubber on the ground...

Is stretching required for this config?

Whilst I'm hijacking this thread (sorry)... Anyone had issues with aftermarket wheels and the tyre pressure indicator?

    I have 18 inch X 7.5 inch with 215/35 tyres.

I get the occasional scrape on the left hand side. Maybe once a fortnight somewhere if hitting a bumb whilst slightly turned.. Nothing to worry about..

I wouldnt go 8 inch wide though. might be the straw which breaks the camels back.

205/40/17 spec on my Yokohamas is
7" minimum...7.5" optimum....8" maximum...the tyre looks slightly "stretched" but is within manufacture specs etc...what happens is the tread "opens" up spreads out so to speak. I noticed this going from 7" to 7.5" rim it'll be even more so with 8".
