I went with 205/40 R17 Potenza Adrenalin RE3 tyres and they certainly fit fine with plenty of clearance.

For the money I would do the front strut brace over the front swaybar.

Can go past good tyres for handling, recently put PSS on the front of my S3, was such an improvement compared to going to KW V2's.

215 needs some offset accuracy when lowered.

Dont make the Polo too stiff of low if you have to take bad roads at speed, not worth the pitching IMO.

What offset are your ones, do you know? I've now got two sets of 17x7s - one at ET35 and the other at about 41, by my measurements... Thanks.

I'm not sure of the offset of the Audi TT rims, but I run a 215/45/17 semi slick on it, no scrubbing on bumps, only a very little if/when going full lock right.

The speedo is out about 8% with standard tyres, it's less with the 215/45's, but still out. More like 3-5% at 100kph. That's measured with my lap timer. With the daily 17's, it's still ~3-5% out. Can't recall exact figures, but still on the safe side to have the speed a bit over 100kph and not exceed the posted limits.

Thanks for the good info there guys. I underestimated the complexity in getting a set of used 17" rims to fit the car.

The first thing to throw me out was the casting said 5x114 when the PO said they were 5x100. Told the guy I was pissed but he assured me they were 5x100, so I measured and sure enough, he's right lol. The cheapo factory that make them must just use the same castings for the different PCD's.

Second challenge is they needed new locating/spigot rings to fit the pog. Ordered those, minimal drama.

Third challenge is the wheel stud/bolt holes are too small a diameter...grrr. Looks like they are designed for an M12 bolt, not the pog's M14. So now I'm debating taking them to an engineering shop to get them opened up...

Final challenge (at least at this stage) is I'll need new bolts that match up with the wheel's 60 degree seats, not the curved or cupped ones as standard.

Why the #$%! I didn't just buy some brand new wheels and save myself a whole heap of hassle, I don't know. I had no idea it could be so difficult.

Ok bit of an old thread here but still pertinent.

What is the conventional wisdom on offset for a 17x7 wheel?

    Anywhere between 32 and 45?

Just doing some research for a potential GTi track car project. I want to run a 235/45/17 tyre on a 17 x 8" rim. The guards will be rolled and I'll be using 4.5 deg -ve Camber front and 2.5 -ve Camber rear. What reasonably priced rims (and offset) could I use???

Thanks for the help in advance...

I've got some OZs in 17x8, ET35 up for grabs. RE002s in 215/40/17, still have some life left in them

    Make an offer..

Nice wheels, pity about the colour thou. At this stage wheels are too early in the projects design. I'm doing my homework 1st to see if the Gti is suitable. A lot of pluses - small, light, wide and plenty of options from other cars. The minuses are the rear beam axle and maybe not being able to get a big enough tyre under those little guards! Also the engine bay is tight around the exhaust side....
