    12v Outlet Drain?

    Hi

I've got a 2007 Polo GTI and have a iPhone charger that I'd like to leave in the 12v outlet all the time.

As the 12v socket stays on even when the ignition is off, does anyone know what the power drain from the charger would be if I didn't have a phone in it? Does the Polo cut the power to the socket before the battery is completely drained?

    Cheers
    Ben

Charger as in cable? Open circuit = no power.

There's a little LED that indicates that it's getting power from the outlet. But that wouldn't drain much would it?

You could leave it in for weeks and it would be OK mate.

Probably the same amount of drain as it takes to power the LCD odometer. In other words, not nearly enough to be any concern.

Why does the 12V outlet stay on when the cars off, is the golf the same?

The power drain could be 20-35mA if it was only LED on, but there is also the charging circuit for your phone. But regardless, it is unlikely to discharge the battery that is in a good condition if you leave it connected just over the weekend.

Are you sure of this? The socket in my car definitely does not stay on with the ignition off.

    Cheers
