well if the rumours are true about VW scrapping the 1.4TSI engine, then don't be surprised to see a 1.8lt TSI with a twinscroll turbocharger onboard, with integrated wastegate control, billet compressor wheel etc etc. Check out BorgWarner EFR range of turbos.

rumor i heard was they were scrapping the 3.2L engine from the R32, never heard anything about the 1.4 being scrapped?

I would highly doubt it the way things are going.

Will be interesting to see if they do go ahead with it, typical i guess considering it probably costs twice as much to build as a 1.8t.. They did that with the mk6 golf, its design was cheaper to make than the mk5, automakers scrimping at every angle.

I think a 1.6L turbo engine would probably replace it.

APR have dyno'd a new 1.4TSI Polo GTI.... 115kw at the wheels!

perhaps i'm being cynical but I read that and wonder about the long term durability of the 1.4tsi. Does VW know something else apart from immediate cost to build. The old 1.8t may lack sme character (in polo form anyway) but it's well proven.

the old 1.8T is obsolete and wont pass future emission standards. It's history.
