    1.8T VS 1.4 Twincharged

    Hi,

We are expecting to have the 1.4 Twincharged motor in the new Polo Gti.

Has anyone driven this drivetrain maybe in the Golf V GT?

How does it compare against the 1.8T from the Polo Gti?

Will anyone be changing over their Polo Gti's for the new model?

read the TSI v TDI thread in the Golf mk5 section.
I usually end up ranting about the how awesome the 1.4TSI is, but i'll hold back this time.

It will be a perfect engine in the new Polo.
Immediately tunable to over 200hp with the APR/Oettinger flash alone.

I don't have a comparison to the 1.8T, but that's a much more established engine, so has many more current tuning options for big power.
But I can't imagine the 1.4 aftermarket sitting still for long though... since the engine is going to be in Golfs, Polos (and I believe a few Audis too).
The engine doesn't attract a premium price in the Golf, so it shouldn't in the Polo.

...it's a smart move for VW, putting the smallest "hot" engine into the Polo, whilst still giving a great power output, wouldn't it be lighter??

im still contemplating trading it in for the new model either polo gti or golf gti, i have people telling me its smarter to trade in and upgrade and some people telling me to just pay the rest of the car off and keep it till it breaks...so i dunno...what are some of you going to be doing?

Yes I agree, however while I do love my current GTI...it might be hard to resist the new one...offering a DSG version will probably seal the deal for me...right now tossing up whether to tune my current 07 GTI or start saving for a release fingers crossed late next year...

I'm leaning towards upgrading, but only if the ride is more fun. Time will tell, I guess.

I cant see it being better than the 1.8T. Maybe an equivalent at best..

The Golf GTi didnt ditch the 2.0T for it so I dont think it will have the tuning potential some think..

I think it might have the low end superior to the 1.8T but I cant see it having more top end....

I will go test drive a Golf GT with the 1.4 and report back, also an unmodified Polo Gti. I encourage others to do the same for a more rounded view.

I'm happy with what I have and one of the reasons was the ability to play with a "sorted" engine with a variety of companies offering options (ie ECU).

In the short-mid term I won't be jumping to the new one. Maybe, in a few years when upgrade paths are well worn and any mistakes with mods are all sorted
