    Hi!

Who will buy Golf VI then? It is virtually impossible to get all these gadgets in a Polo. Polo should be simpler and smaller...

I might do a backflip here...

Maybe the 1.4 twincharged motor with DSG auto will keep it ahead of the 1.8T

Even if the 1.4 doesnt have the dizzy heights of the 1.8T motor the DSG box will keep it on boost all day long. Off the mark it will move as boost can be loaded up on a stall and no loss of boost through gear changes..

I say this in consideration with XR6T... The auto guys will 300rwkw were running mid 11s, the manual guys with 330rwkw were lucky to run 12.5. having dump boost through changes was killing them.

why the hell would you want a 1.4 car over a 1.8t 20v.

the 20v has been around for yonks with plenty of power upgrades that are tried and trued.

your taking a step back by decreasing capacity, and going to a relatively unknown quanitity of an engine!

cut the crap. Get a big turbo upgrade (GT28RS+) forged internals and enjoy the dam thing!

No I spoke to my VW dealer recently...he said the plans to introduce the Sirocco were shelved and that with VW he reckons nothing is for certain - he also said as a dealer they won't have any news until a week or two before the news is to be actioned...hmmmmmmm!!!

Really hoping the new Polo Gti will come in 5 door guise with the 1.4TSI twincharged engine with DSG. Most likely would be buying that for the wife particularly for the availability of engine tuning options with APR. Recently bought the new Ford Fiesta Zetec for the wife and so far so good but the only real complaint is a lack of power. Hence the new polo would be a great changeover. Personally if our budget could stretch to the new Golf Gti then I'd prefer that. Otherwise, the Polo should be good.

For that exact reason. The 1.8T 20V is an old engine. There have been lots of refinements and advances made in the 10 to 15 years since this engine was originally made. Yes, the 1.4TSI is new, but there is a lot of excitement and demand for updates, and as one person has already indicated, ECU updates upgrade the power in line with the 1.8T's ECU updates... I'm sure other power options with follow.

All things being equal, there is no replacement for displacement... but 10 to 15 years of development in the 1.4TSI over the 1.8T 20V means all things aren't equal here.

I'm with you Dave, if the new 1 comes in 5 door it is likely I'll buy another as my kids will need wheels in a few years and what better way to start than with a Polo GTI.

1.4TSI are also OK for P platers I believe and is it will be least powerful car in the family will allow that route to bypass the P requirements as well.

To be honest though, I'd rather have the 1.8TSI of the A3 in the next Polo GTI than the 1.4TSI ......
