9N3 GTI - Recall for Ignition Coil packs

Was trawling through vask.org.nz and came across a global VW/Audi recall on Ignition coils for certain cars. I called up Barloworld and gave them my VIN and they said that there was a pending 'campaign' on my car.

Booked in for next Friday to have all 4 coil packs replaced for free.

Not sure what models/years it covers, but mine is a 2006 Polo GTI.

I love how VW have my address/phone number, but won't drop a letter/txt to say that my car needs this work. Guess they should call it a rewhisper.

The campaign to fix the coil pack would be performed at your next service, that's why they don't bother to call you. If there was a mandated recall due to a safety issue you could expect a letter.

Issue is though if you get your car serviced at a non dealer.

Seems to be 05-07 builds from my snooping around the net and affects Polo GTI, Passat V6, Golf GTI, R32 etc...

Good post! I didn't know about it and gave my local VW Dealership a call. They have booked my car in for the replacement part on Tuesday! Better to be safe than finding a problem later onwards.

Interesting - must be why I've had to replace 3 of my coil packs so far (at my own expense). I don't take the Polo to an official dealer for service so I'd have never known the original packs were recalled if not for this thread.

Curious about this too; just bought a 2007 gti and one of the coils had recently gone and been replaced, was given a spare by the seller as he anticipates others will go. Be good if I could get them all as a recall/replacement.

Well I'm not having any joy with my dealer. They showed me on their system that there are no recalls for my car, accept for a mirror cap thing that was tended to years ago (or maybe that was just a warranty claim). It may be though that the recall was not made here in NZ, although you would expect we would get the same ones as Australia. Mine's a late 06 GTI, which appears in their system as an 07. I got the impression from the dealer that such recalls tend to stay open indefinitely, if they exist.

28F5 is the number by the looks of things. Got a sticker in the door on the Squib.

Yeah, already advised them of that number. Will see if they have any news for me tomorrow when I go to pick up the replacement, but suspect I'll be handing over my hard earned cash for it.
