I think there is a lot to be said for being able to get the power down. I've heard people talking about loosing traction in 2nd and 3rd, I don't think thats ever been an issue in my car when in the dry on decent roads in a straight line. Stiffer suspension, larger front swaybar, stickier tyres all help.
I also think people tend to want the times to be lower, so might take the odometer reading as enough (which is about 9% out on stock tyres).
APR is not the most aggressive tune, are you running the Version 1 or Version 2 of the tune? You can add a little timing using lemmiwinks, I notice a large difference. Also for some reason, the APR tune seems to dull over time, if you turn it off, drive it so you know its off and turn it on again, there is more torque for some reason.
