A lot of mechanics wont fit customer supplied parts these days. So either see if you can return the items you have bought, or buy a Carista OBD tool and then you can fit them yourself. Carista OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner – Android and iOS | AutoInstruct
Hi Guys
Does anyone know any VW mechanics around Melbourne or Box Hill area?
I need help fitting a new rear rotors and pads on 2018 Golf (MK7)?
I bought pads and rotors already.
I contacted several mechanic, but all of them said they don't allow customer bringing their own parts.
Unfortunately, I don't have VCDS/OBD11 so I cannot fit them myself.
Cheers.

thanks for info, sorry for late response. I check with couple of mechanics they told me the same. They only want to fit pads supplied by them. As you said, I returned them and get it done by local mechanics.
Any reason you prefer Carista than OBD11?
Excellent question!!!
My experience using multiple diagnostic devices like OBD11, VCDS, VCP (albeit I haven't tried Carista) has been that each has its advantages and deficiencies. That said, I wouldn't touch early software version ELM327 devices that only read fault codes on eBay (Carista uses v1.4 - I think)
Most folk don't make informed decisions when choosing their first diagnostic device and they discover the limitations after purchase!
My advice before throwing money at a tool - understand your needs - research the better brands - know their good/bad points. All common sense suggestions
Yes, ask questions on forums like this, but differentiate between personal like/dislikes and facts.
Ultimately and notwithstanding my suggested method above, whether your choice is a good one will depend on how you personally value stuff - which of course will be different to how a forum colleague values stuff!!
Anyhow, I'm interested in your question too - I know very little about Carista

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
Ive never actually used OBD11 so im not saying that I prefer one over the other because ive never had the chance to use OBD11. But I bought Carista at the time (probably 4+ years ago now) for these reasons:
1) I already had VCDS so didnt need or want the extra capability that OBD11 has over Carista.
2) Carista had some functionality that I wanted for my Audi with regards to the diesel particulate filter (DPF) which I was having issues with at the time. At that stage, OBD11 did not support this functionality for the DPF (but as I understand it, it does now).
3) It does everything I need it to do. I think I have only needed to use VCDS once since I bought the Carista device, and that was to reset all learned values/parameters for the DPF so it was as if I had fitted a new one. Not sure if OBD11 can do this function, but Carista could not do it.
I do tend to recommend it because I believe that for most people its all that they will need. The average person doesnt necessarily need or want anything more.
