Hi,
Took my mk5 1.9 TDI into Prestige and Performance in Brisbane yesterday to get its 90k service.
Drove it out of the yard after the service home about 5km then this morning tried to go to work this morning and Poof Whine Whistle after about 7 to 10km This thing is a shopping trolley. I wasn't even going uphill when it happened 2k RPM on the clock cruising down a hill. Was asked to take it straight to the shop to have it looked at and stupid me did just that should have taken it to a different shop and had it checked. no warning lights or warning before it happened.
What are the odds of the service being unrelated to the blown turbo, Now they are asking 2 to 3k to fix the turbo.
Pissed indeed.

I have never had any issues with Prestige and Performance.
In fact they have performed above my expectations every time i have used them.
Could just be a problem with the turbo.
VAG used a few different manufacturers to turbocharge the 1.9s. One of those was particularly prone to failure.

I went to P&P due to the good reputation they have. But what are the odds of a turbo blowing AFTER brand new oil was put in the system while it ran fine before. The car has only done 94k of if it was younger it would be fixed under warranty. its all a bit suspect.
If there was no oil in the engine would it turbo go first or engine? I assume turbo due to heat.
If it was overfilled with oil what would be the result?
I was told the pivot shaft for the turbo sheered in half and that threw blades everywhere. Thats a big ask and a big lockup. Remember this happened while i was coasting along at about 2k RPM down a hill.

Yeah, that's pretty much how they fail. The shaft seizes, and everything attached parts company.
It's more a turbo problem than a workmanship problem.
If I ever have to do another one, I'll be dropping the engine out, and replacing it on the workshop floor.

Good point George I had no warning lights at all
Going to ring around and see if i can get it cheaper. P&P finished up by saying it should cost no more then 2k possibly less if there are no other problems. I get the feeling they are trying to be consolatory I hope thats the case as i just bought this car had it a month only.
