The main reason I took the car in was to get a few minor issues checked, as I am capable of doing an oil change myself, but thought I'd get it all done in one hit, because it was due. NONE of my issues were fixed - I was simply told 'we could not replicate, but come back next week if you're in the area' ... which to me means that they may not have had time to look at it, as when I got there at the end of the day it was up on the hoist.. last car of the day. My car also came away squealing all the way home, as it now requires new brake pads. Will not be returning, that is for sure.
Why would your brakes suddenly start squealing just because they observed they needed changing?

What exactly did your invoice say?

My guy charges $330 for a basic service, so if you had a few extras done $400 isn't OTT.

Did you get a quote for the service beforehand?

Yeah, no idea why the brakes were squealing. The certainly weren't at all in the 6 months prior. I then got a quote emailed to me last night for over $2k to do brakes and timing belt.
Invoice was for oil, filter, cleaners, 'workshop tools', enviro levy and labour. NONE of my small issues that I wanted fixed were fixed.
They didn't even reset my tyre pressure warning after they increased the pressure, so I drove down the road and the light came on.. All in all, just not the customer service I'm looking for in a new mechanic.

    Very much so.

Terry has given me nothing but great service. Quoted prices have always been accurate and on a couple of occasions the final price has been less than what was quoted.

I believe he also has a loan car available.

They have done both servicing work and fitting jobs (coilovers etc) for me.

It sounds like understandable dis-satisfaction. I wouldn't return either.
